New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has released approximately 170,000 pages of previously undisclosed city records related to the September 11, 2001 attacks and their aftermath.

The records include documents concerning air quality, health risks, government responses, contamination and what city officials knew about conditions around Ground Zero. The release includes the long-sought Harding Memo, records from 68 Department of Environmental Protection boxes discovered in 2025, and documents concerning World Trade Center 7.

The newly released material is raising fresh questions about whether New Yorkers were adequately informed about the dangers of the air after 9/11. The New York Times reported that records showed evidence of asbestos and other contamination continuing months after the attacks, while officials had publicly reassured residents that the air was safe.

Mayor Mamdani said the records show what the city knew, when it knew it and how officials responded, while his administration says additional records will continue to be released over the next year.
