Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley delivers a powerful address at the 81st United Nations General Assembly, challenging world leaders on global power, international reform, inequality, conflict and climate change.

In her speech, Mottley argued that UN reform cannot be selective and called for changes to the way global power and representation are structured. She highlighted that Africa has 54 countries but no permanent seat on the UN Security Council, while Small Island Developing States also lack assured representation despite facing major security and climate-related challenges.

She called for globally agreed rules governing AI and warned against allowing technological advances to reproduce existing inequalities and power imbalances.
