Mali’s Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop delivers a powerful address at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. 🇲🇱🇺🇳

On September 28, 2026, Abdoulaye Diop, Mali’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, addressed the UN General Assembly on behalf of Mali’s transitional authorities. The speech covered Mali’s sovereignty, security in the Sahel, terrorism, international partnerships, African representation and reform of the United Nations.

Diop argued for what Mali describes as “strategic autonomy” for Mali, the Confederation of Sahel States and Africa, while also emphasizing diversified partnerships and cooperation rather than confrontation.

He called for a more representative and reformed United Nations and said Africa should have a stronger voice in international decision-making. He also addressed migration, Palestine, security challenges in the Sahel and Mali’s broader foreign-policy priorities.
