Mr. Senate President,
Mr. Speaker,
Distinguished Members of the National Assembly,
Fellow Nigerians,

I am deeply honored to address you all on this historic day—Democracy Day—a day that symbolizes our collective struggle, sacrifice, and unyielding commitment to the ideals of freedom, representation, and self-governance.

🔹 A Journey of Courage and Sacrifice
June 12 is not just a date. It is a symbol. A symbol of the resilience of the Nigerian people and the ultimate price paid by heroes who believed in a Nigeria governed by the will of its citizens.

I stand before you in this hallowed chamber, fully aware of the blood, sweat, and tears shed to secure this democracy. We pay tribute to the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola, the undisputed winner of the 1993 election, and to heroes like Kudirat Abiola, Pa Alfred Rewane, Gani Fawehinmi, and countless others whose voices were silenced but not forgotten.

We recognize and appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari, who took the bold step of declaring June 12 as Democracy Day, cementing its place in history.

🔹 Strength of Our Institutions
This National Assembly stands as a pillar of our democracy. In difficult times, you have defended our constitutional order—from rejecting the third-term agenda in 2006 to upholding succession during the constitutional crisis in 2010. You have shown that power belongs to the people.

As President, I reaffirm that a one-party state is not our goal. We welcome a vibrant, constructive opposition. That is the soul of democracy.

🔹 Economic & Institutional Reforms
Democracy must deliver, not just in votes, but in food on the table, security, jobs, and hope. We have introduced targeted tax relief for small businesses, set up a Tax Ombudsman, and are launching the National Credit Guarantee Company with ₦100 billion to empower entrepreneurs and reduce corruption.

We are modernizing institutions, digitizing processes, and strengthening anti-corruption frameworks to rebuild public trust.

🔹 National Security and Armed Forces
To our brave men and women in uniform, your sacrifices make our democracy possible. We are reforming defense procurement, supporting veterans, and ensuring transparency in military spending.

🔹 Unity, Justice, and the Nigerian Dream
We are many peoples, but one Nigeria. Our diversity is not our weakness, it is our strength. I call on every Nigerian—Muslim or Christian, Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Ijaw or Tiv—to believe again in the Nigerian Dream.

This dream is not owned by any party or politician—it is powered by you, the Nigerian people.

🔹 Posthumous Honors to Democracy Heroes
Today, we honor those who gave everything:

Chief M.K.O. Abiola – GCFR
Alhaja Kudirat Abiola – GCON
Ken Saro-Wiwa – OON
Wole Soyinka – CFR
Pa Anthony Enahoro, Gani Fawehinmi, and many more.
Their sacrifices will not be forgotten.

🔹 Conclusion
Fellow Nigerians, the road ahead will not be easy. But democracy gives us the tools to correct our course, to speak truth to power, and to build a better tomorrow.

Let us walk this path together — with courage, unity, and faith.
