President Vladimir Putin has met with Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) President Félix Tshisekedi at the Kremlin in Moscow during the Third Russia–Africa Summit.

The high-level meeting focused on strengthening diplomatic relations, expanding economic cooperation, improving security, and restoring peace in eastern DR Congo.

President Tshisekedi highlighted his country’s desire to diversify its international partnerships and identified several priority areas for cooperation with Russia, including agriculture, energy, natural resources, technology, healthcare, and security.

One of the key issues raised was the ongoing conflict in eastern DR Congo. Tshisekedi called for international support to help restore peace, emphasizing that stability is essential for the country’s economic development.

President Putin described DR Congo as a promising African partner with significant potential for trade and investment.

The meeting also saw the signing of three bilateral cooperation agreements covering institutional cooperation, education, and healthcare.

What could closer cooperation between Russia and DR Congo mean for the future of Central Africa? Could this partnership help support peace, security, and economic development?
